Cupcakes by Sonja

Not many people know this about me but I, too, am suffering from an addiction.  It's nothing to worry about though, as there are millions of us in the same boat.

I'm talking about sugar addiction!  When the dreaded sweet tooth comes knocking, well, it's definitely an itch you just have to scratch.

So while in Serendra one fine sunny Saturday morning, I finally found myself with enough time to drop by Cupcakes by Sonja to figure out why other sweet tooth sufferers like me are so obsessed with them.

THE DECOR:

I love period decor, especially those that have a rustic, French, summer cottage feel and the Cupcakes by Sonja store has definitely whetted my visual appetite.  Every corner was so inspiring, so chi-chi, so cute!

This is what greets you once you enter the land of sweetness...

Cupcakes, anyone?
NOM NOM NOM...

Wonderful and well-trained staff will gladly assist you in placing your orders.  Although their menu listed down quite a number, there were just a few on display, and so I chose from that lot.

Guess what's inside.

Such pretty colors.  =)

I went home with samples of 3 flavors:

Vanilla Sunshine, which I bought for Php55 each;

Vanilla Sunshin (Php55)

Chocolate Surprise for Php68;

Chocolate Surprise (Php68)

And since it was the Little One's first month birthday, a Peppermint Patty (Php68) just for her.

THE VERDICT:

Let me start off by saying that these cupcakes are ok.  I mean they taste good but are a little dense.  Quite heavy on the stomach actually, but good.  I love the Chocolate Surprise!  =)

The icing was a first for me, as I am used to creamy frostings, but with Sonja's, it's a little granular in texture (sort of reminds me of those Dunkin Donut cream fillings) and a tad too sweet for my taste.

All in all, not a bad product, but I think I'll save this for those very special occasions.  =)

  6. Happy 1 month to your baby! It's been awhile since the last time I dropped by Sonja's! I remember when they first came out selling all these lovely looking cupcakes, but now that there are alot being sold in the market, well...you know! I have a sweet tooth as well and I can honestly say that sugar is an addiction I do not want to keep away from - while I can still enjoy! Mar

  18. @Pinay Mom: The Chocolate Surprise is the one I like the best among the 3. However, I've been hearing a lot of good things about the Red Velvet cupcake. MMight try it out next time. =)

    @laarni lopez: I know exactly how you feel. When you feel the urge to eat sweets, its something that just doesn't go away. Hehehe!

    @Mar: Thanks Mar! I feel your pain. Great to hear from other sweet tooth sufferers. =)

    @CutestPrincess: Sonja's also offers sandwiches and drinks if you're really not into sweets that much. To be quite honest, what really first caught my attention was their store design. Just coulnd't help but admire cute, French decor. =)

    @maiylah: Hope you could post the name of the company here so we could all try it out as well. =)

    @i am certified: Hope could. It really is an experience. =)

    The Peppermint Patty was ok. But I;m not really into minty desserts. =)

    @Ayel: Don't worry, they also sell cakes and other savoury treats if you're not that partial to cupcakes. =)

    @Ishmael Fischer Ahab: Thanks for visiting! =)

    @wendy: Thanks Wendy! =)

    @Love Love ♥: I view them as more for special occasions. Hehehe! =)

    You're right. The facade is so attention grabbing that you just can't help but go in. There was actually a group who ordered drinks instead of cupcakes. Guess there just found the place so inviting. ☺
