The Restaurant Formerly Known as Heaven & Eggs -- H&E

Similar to Prince (whose stage names underwent various changes), Heaven & Eggs revamped its sunny, cutesy image; and in the end, turned to a more edgier vibe, even changing their name to simply H&E to matcht their new aura.  But regardless of the outfit change, the food is still, as always, still the best.

I'm a big fan of the original franchise because (1) I loved the homey, sunny feel to it.  Just the type of vibe I get when I know I'm about to enjoy a really good meal (whatever the time of day).  And (2), the food is always fantastic.

With the revamped H&E, although you get a more dark, angsty style, they still serve some mean treats.  Just check out the new interiors and decor.

New feel

For longganiza (a type of local sausage) lovers, H&E's Lovin' Lucban Longganiza (Php295) is a must-try.

Lovin' Lucban Longganisa

Delicious fried Lucban Longganisa served with garlic rice plus 2 delectably runny, sunny side-up eggs.  Salted egg and some sweet, crunchy atchara (pickled papaya) complete the dish.

Another specialty is the Manila Ribs, 2011 (Php325).

Manila Ribs, 2011

Sweet and tender smoked BBQ pork ribs served with delectable java rice.  As with the Lovin' Lucban, this also comes with atchara, tomatoes, salted egg, and crunchy, fried eggs on the side.

The thing I always associate with Heaven & Eggs the most is their line-up of drinks.  More than the food, what keeps us, the Madir most especially, from coming back to this place is because of their cream sodas or Creamsicles which remind her so much of her childhood days.

Alas, they don't serve this drink much anymore (as what we have been told by our wait staff.  Maybe it wasn't as macho and dark as their decor?  J)  But they still serve other great thirst quenchers like their line of flavored milk drinks (Php75 and up), fruit shakes (Php85 and up), coolers (starts at Php85) and soda floats (Php105), among others.

Good thing some things never change.  J
