And so it is with great delight that I report that the Tony-award winning musical based on this timeless strip is finally going to be shown in Manila!!! Oh joy!
You're a good man, Charlie Brown the musical |
Brought to the country by 9 Works Theatrical and directed by veteran actor Michael Williams, You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown features our favorite Peanuts characters come to life!
Director Michael Williams with the cast of You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown |
Peppered with a lot of catchy songs and witty annecdotes following the same vignette style that is so characteristic of the strip, this is one musical that is definitely a must-see for all fans of Peanuts, both young and old alike. J
The cast in character |
See Charlie Brown, played by Robbie Guevarra (Miss Saigon Asia, The Sound of Music) as he ponders on the complexities of life, mustering up the courage to talk to the Little Red-Haired Girl, or battling it out with the kite-eating tree.
"The doctor is IN" |
Trying to cure his neuroses (whether imagined or not) is crabby Lucy, brought to life by Carla Guevarra-Fortaleza (The Sound of Music, The Baker's Wife, Avenue Q), who is still up to her old tricks in trying to win the affections of the Beethoven-obsessed Schroeder, played by Pop Talk's Tonipet Gaba.
"My new philosophy" |
Charlie Brown's adorable little sister, Sally (played by none other than The CompanY's Sweet Plantado-Tiongson) thinks up of new philosophies as a way to handle her life's problems.
And of course, the musical wouldn't be complete without Linus, Charlie Brown's best friend played by Franco Laurel of Eezy Dancing and Keep on Dancing fame (9 Works Theatrical's Marketing and PR Director, Toff de Venecia will also play the same role in select performances.)
And yes, even Snoopy will be played by a human -- a talented one at that in the form of Lorenz Martinez (The Sound of Music, Jesus Christ Superstar.)
"Happiness" |
I am so marking my calendars! Happiness! J

Haven't gone to any musical yet. :|
ReplyDeleteI miss watching musicals... :(
ReplyDeleteI think the last time that I watched one was last 2009 and it was about Christmas and Uncle Scrooge (I forgot who played, but they were from overseas.) I hope I have the time for this one!
@michymichymoo: It's good to experience it at least once. I love musicals and if it were not for the fact that tickets are so expensive, I'd be watching them all the time instead of the movie versions. But the movies make really good alternatives too. =)
ReplyDelete@Aileen: I'm so excited for this. I love the Peanuts gang! And from the short preview we got, I'm betting this will be one really great show. =)
I know someone who's really gonna be delighted about this! I'll share your link if you don't mind :)
ReplyDelete@Christian | Lakad Pilipinas: Sure. No problem. =)
