Clear Plastic Film: An Alternative Book Cover

NOTE: November is National Reading Month here in the Philippines; and in order to commemorate this great and enjoyable pastime, I've decided to showcase book reviews, and other related items, this whole month.  We'll return to my regular hodge podge of post-able topics after.  So sit back, relax, and let the reviews begin!  J

I cover my books in plastic.  It's automatic.  Whenever I get a new tome, I grab scissors, tape and a few pieces of cover and happily wrap my newest treasure.  It's a great way to protect my new find.

Recently though, I've found another way of wrapping my "babies"... with clear plastic film!

Klear Cover, just one brand of clear plastic films available

Clear plastic film is simply transparent plastic cover with a sticky backing, thus eliminating the need for scotch tape and other similar sticky tapes.  Personally, I use Klear Cover™ , just one of the clear film brands available in the market.

Covering my copy of Eat, Pray, Love

I usually use clear plastic films to cover my books.  You simply measure (it's ruled at the back for a more accurate measurement), cut to the desired portion, and wrap as usual (more detailed instructions can be seen at Wikihow.com.)

Measure twice, cut once.

Aside from books, I also use clear plastic films in laminating/sealing art projects with flat surfaces, like the Little One's personalized magnet souvenir which I did in celebration of her Baptism.  It's also perfect for providing a protective covering for brochures and booklets.

Souvenir and prayer booklet

A roll (good enough for about 10 to 12 regular-sized paperbacks) sells for Php88 at select Japan Home/American Bazaar outlets nation-wide (Philippines)  Another brand, called Cover Ups!, is also available at Fully Booked (Rockwell and BGC branches) for Php149 to 249 a roll (patterned designs also available).

Nothing sure beats a good find, don't you think?  J

  2. I work at a library, and we do use this, but only on a few books. It's not something we order a lot of. We still use the old school plastic for covering. I think we don't use it much because it doesn't stand the wear and tear from the hundreds of kids who borrow our books everyday. That's probably a good option only for personal use books :)
