Marché® Swiss Market Restaurant (A Singapore Food Post)

Fresh is definitely best and one of my favorite restaurants here in Singapore follows and delivers this exact adage to a T -- Marché® Swiss Market Restaurant.

Marché® at 313 Somerset mall

Marché®, a Swiss dining establishment, aims to provide the public with fresh, healthy fare that is cooked right before your very eyes.  As mentioned, it has been a favorite place of ours ever since we first tried them out way back 2007.

The madir's 2nd visit to Marché®.  She absolutely loves it!

A Visit to a Swiss Marketplace

It's sort of patterned after a marketplace with each section devoted to a particular type of fare.  Their's, folks, is styled as a self-serve place where ordering and picking-up your food is done at the designated stalls.

So many choices!

Upon entering, customers are issued these electronic guest cards that you have to present everytime you order.  These are then collected at the cashier's area near the exit when you settle your bill.

What's to Eat?

I don't have any complaints on the food.  It's simply the best!  Never have I encountered an item I didn't like.  And since they use such fresh ingredients and are cooked before you as well, you know you're really in for a treat.

Here are just a few items available there to give you an idea on what they offer:

Spanish Seafood Paella (S$17.40 / Php570* for a single portion)

The Husband's personal favorite is their Spanish seafood paella.  The best ever!

Carbonara in Cream Sauce (S$17.90 / Php590*)

Their carbonara in cream sauce is heavenly.  They definitely didn't splurge on the cream nor the toppings.

Smoked Duck Breast with Hoisin Sauce Pizza (S$23.50 / Php770*)

This, I guess, is inspired by the Chinese influence here in Singapore.  A very simple but really delicious pizza.  The hoisin sauce gives it that sweet tasty flavor.

Calamansi with Sour Plum (S$3.60 / Php118* for a regular serving)

Hmmm... this drink is a little tricky to describe so I'll dissect the main components first.

Well, there's calamansi (a kind of small lime) juice (which I guess most are familiar with, right?) which is mixed in with a piece of dried sour plum (a preserved fruit, a little like kiamoy without the red powder.)  This drink is made all the more sweeter by adding simple sugar syrup.

And yes, here in Singapore, calamansi/lime juice with dried sour plum is a very popular drink; the best version of which, in my opinion, is offered by Marché®.

Ok.  I can almost see your incredulous expressions.  The weirdness factor aside, this is actually a very tasty and sweet drink.  One of my favorites.  In fact, I was constantly craving for this when I still heavily pregnant with the Little One.

It's sweet, salty, and sour; all at the same time.  Very refreshing and so addicting!

Is it Worth it?

Definitely!  Prices may seem a little steep but trust me, it's well worth the splurge.  We usually have brunch here after Sunday mass.  A really great way to break our fast.  Plus, portions are huge (usually good for 2 to share), which accounts for the high rates.

Oh!  And since they promote healthy living, vegetarians will be quite pleased to know that they offer a huge array of non-meat dishes.  Tasty, too!

Definitely one of the places I recommend you try whenever you're in Singapore (or any other place where there's a Marché® branch.)  J
