Get Gorgeous and Healthy at the Ilog Maria Honeybee Farm

I've been to numerous trips to Tagaytay and yet only had just recently, finally spotted the way to the Ilog Maria Honeybee Farm, a small off-the-beaten path refuge that is slowly becoming one well-known tourist hotspot in the South.

Getting Back to the Basics

Located at Silang, Cavite, Ilog Maria Honeybee Farm is the home and refuge of Mr. Joel Magsaysay (and his family), who did what all us corporate slaves wish to have the guts to do -- get out of the rat race and live a life of peace and harmony.

From Aguinaldo highway, travel on a beaten and worn out path (once used to be one made specially for horses to trudge on) in order to reach the farm.  Be prepared for a few bumps and accompanying aches as you find yourself hitting car ceiling at each hole and stop.

But at the end is a wonderland filled with various plants and crops, and of course, man-made bee hives.

Nature

Get Gorgeous and Healthy

The central adobe structure is sparse and an unassuming little thing that houses the farm’s shop, selling tons of honey and beeswax-filled/based products.  A workshop is situated below, where you can watch the workers make the exact same items they sell.

The choices are so vast and plenty.  Choosing and keeping to a budget took all our energies and self-control.

Mom on hunting mode.  So many choices, so little time.

These are what I personally recommend.

Natural handcrafted bath soaps with various health and beauty benefits. (Php35 to 110)

Lip balm made from beeswax (Php65)

Honey face scrub (Php140.)  The best, thus far, I've tried.  Left my face feeling really fresh and clean; although a little messy and time consuming to use (requires abour 30 minutes of continuous rubbing on your face to get the full benefits).

Beeswax candles.  Smokeless and with a slight scent of honey.

Learning a Lesson or Two

Ilog Maria Honeybee Farm aims to bring awareness of the benefits of honey and its byproducts to the masses.  As such, they constructed a small concrete structure, a museum of sorts, which they use to spread their message of health and well-being.

Did you know that...

And a Few Small Surprises...

A trip to the Ilog Maria Honeybee Farm is not without it's small, simple pleasures.  Follow a gaggle of geese are they go about their merry way...

Honk honk

Or catch a lazy cat lounging on top of warm pathway stones.

Do not disturb.

A trip to their comfort room is wonderful as well...

Comfort room

... where you'll find this inside.

A really comfortable room

Nature just seems to inspire every nook and cranny of the Ilog Maria Honeybee Farm.  Such bliss to be able to call this home.

At peace

  7. My group just came from Ilog Maria and we were really dismayed at how they displayed their products.....in direct sunlight and heat. What was more flabbergasting was the fact that their product literature specifically states for Storage : OUT OF DIRECT SUNLIGHT and HEAT.

When we called the Shop girl's attention to the fact that their products were displayed in DIRECT SUNLIGHT and HEAT, she did not pay attention to our admonitions. Since our counsel was ignored, I decided to write my comments on Ilog Maria's site. However, the reply of Mr. Joel Magsaysay was "Product replacement and turn over is always done every half of the day." I think that that is most incongruous to their Storage Instructions.

Then today I used their massage oil. Oh my!!! The floral scent was just way too overpowering. I started sneezing and sniffling. I told my masseuse to stop using the Ilog Maria Massage Oil and we resorted to using the Spa's regular oil.

I bought a variety of products amounting to almost PhP3K. I haven't taken any product that needs to be taken orally because of fear that their products may have broken down and its efficacy may have been compromised because of being subjected to direct sunlight and heat.
