Over the couple of years I started this blog and from the online friends I've met, I've learned that there are a number of considerations you have to take when deciding to create your own website, most of which, admittedly I overlooked when starting the blog.
1. First step to creating a website is to figure out a niche. Do you want to write about food? Fashion? Or just simply share your experiences with other people? Find what you are passionate about and the ideas for your site's content will surely follow.
2. Deciding on a domain name and search for a web host. In my opinion, domain names should be personal and should also be part of what you intend to write about. It's like naming a baby. If you plan to go into this in the long run, you should at least give your website a name you'll love right?
3. Searching for a web host is another tricky issue you have to think about. A lot of people have their own ideas on what works and what doesn't. For instance, purchasing your own domain name ensures that you are given more liberty in designing your website.
I heard from one other blogger that you should purchase your own domain name once the site reaches it's 2nd month since it means that you are writing and thinking of maintaining it for a long period. The testing phase is over and you're in for some serious writing.
4. Design your website to suit your preferences and personalitites. Fill it up with loads of content you find interesting and want to share with others.
Be passionate in what you write about and for sure, like-minded individuals will flock to your site.
