Lourd de Veyra's This is a Crazy Planets

Lourd Ernest de Veyra has probably done it all -- singer, poet, radio/television host, weather man.

And with the release of his This is a Crazy Planets, a compilation of some of his best essays from his SPOT.ph blog of the same name, he can now add published book author to his growing list of achievements.

Crazy cats!

Lourd de Veyra writes in an almost similar fashion as Jessica Zafra, although personally, I prefer his less angsty prose.  He pens about the taboo.  Stuff you wouldn't dare speak in public, more or less write about for worldwide circulation, lest you offend a family member, a friend, or mamang tindero (male vendor) across the street.

He is like Garfield, who chooses to act and speak in ways that we care not admit to ourselves, but in a witty and surprisingly charming way.

A few of my favorites include "Sex and the Senate" wherein he blasts our public officials for focusing their energies and wasting the public coffers on the Halili-Kho scandal (which where, I wonder, have really gotten us after).  Then there's "Attack of the Killer Buses" and "Taxi Drivers from Hell" where one is treated to a satirical look on our public transports and their inconsiderate drivers.

In this world of political correctness and polite society, it is refreshing to note that there are still people who choose to tell it like it is, without fear of an angry mob -- torches and pitchforks included.  He is the voice that speaks on behalf of our good sense which we have deeply buried underneath years of training in proper manners and right conduct.  Heheheh!  J

I only wish I could write half as well as he can.  *sigh*

  1. I haven't read any of Lourd's essays, but I watch Word of the Lourd. He is indeed a witty and brave man. I'll check his Spot.ph blog, I bet he's more daring with his writings. Thanks for sharing!
